Hoping against the hope

No religious, moral or even legal obligations compelled our government to take the responsibility of providing the basic amenities to every individual to feel dignified even after the apex court’s decisions and directions.

People of our nation after giving to themselves the Constitution may have thought that the government will give them a life which could have been an unfulfilled dream in colonial era.

For the person of common prudence, it is worthless to mention that the govt. is not only Constitutionally obliged but also with so many independent legislations, international treaties and the supposed highest form of law,i.e., law of morality and law of humanity; to provide basic amenities to individual for their basic development for making invaluable contribution to a society.

Looking at the seriousness of the govt. on this issue since independence; it seems that to expect this is just hoping against the hope.

Media Vs. Judiciary: High time strike a balance

From ancient times people were so eager to know what happened around them. They often waited for the traders to come not only to have their goods but also to know what went on in their neighboring states. The traders who moved on from one kingdom to the other apprised them on latest developments. As time passed on we reached the present era of information revolution that deconstructed our life forever. Change can often be for good or bad, largely depends on the mindset of the concerned that how they tend to use it. Information technology brought revolutionary changes in both print and visual media, resulting in the rise of a new empowered fourth estate. Obviously this had far reaching effects on all fronts; the immediate result was more administrative accountability than ever. A sense of fear spread among the black sheep’s of an imminent sting on them, media activism grabbed public attention.

RTI Workshop conducted by Subhash C Agarwal

5th September, 2011
The Legal Aid Society of Campus Law Centre organized a guest lecture by Subhash C. Agarwal, one of the stalwarts of the Right to Information movement, which was truly one of the most significant events of independent, democratic India. The speaker holds the Guinness Record for maximum number of letters written to various newspapers highlighting governmental and administrative apathy. The lecture was indeed a very enlightening one, adding tremendously to our knowledge on the topic.
