Interactive Session on Legal Literacy Module

The session for student members of Legal Aid Society who had registered for the 'Legal Literacy Project' was held on 13th September in the Seminar Hall of Campus Law Centre. Dr. Raman Mittal encouraged the students to make the session interactive and the entire session was vibrant with numerous questions and suggestions shot by the students. Dr. Mittal presented the 'Legal Literacy Module for School Children IX-XII' which formed the backbone of the orientation. He went on to describe the objectives of the project and the desired plan of action. Suggestions by students were welcome and were instantly incorporated in the project.

Dr. Mittal explained the general themes and the specific issues which were to be taken up in the project. Small teams of 4-5 members were formed for each specific issue. The teams were directed to work in a cohesive and consensual pattern. They were given deadlines for the tasks assigned to them. An additional team of photographers, cartoonists and other caricature developers was formed to make the modules and presentations illustrative and desirable for school children. Special stress was given on making the material attractive to students as Dr. Mittal wanted it to attract large number of students and had the energetic nature of teenagers in mind.

Two components of the project were decided to be acted upon. The first one included the preparation of module and the other one involved conducting Legal Literacy classes in schools with the help of the module. The module was to incorporate three qualities; It had to be attractive, suggestive and informative. The modules were to be bilingual to reach the maximum number of students. Delegating the entire responsibility of the project to the students Dr. Mittal concluded the session by emphasizing on the student led character of the project based on voluntary participation.
