We Are Free: An Attempt To Unravel The Real

When man settled himself, when civilization started growing, various creative forms also found space for their growth. The creative one among them nurtured these forms with great care, thus mankind was gifted with a great form that came to be known as theatre. When his creative skills adorned with ornamental wings, started flying sky high, we were gifted with n number of plays that transcended the boundaries of time and space. Theatre in different parts of the world played different roles like shaping the society and reforming the thought processes. Its appeal never got limited to any particular class, creed or religion; rather it acted as a bridge that brought different segments under one roof.

The students of Campus Law Centre Legal Aid Society are also experimenting with this great weapon, “the theatre” to bombard the minds of young men and women and thereby equipping themselves for achieving greater goals in their life, while bringing a positive change in those paths through which they trek ahead.

The nation had been under foreign clutches for long and in order to break the chains of these bondages our great forefathers had to lead a valiant struggle. When they led the movement from the front braving bullets and lathis of the colonial powers they had a dream, A dream to lay foundation for a vibrant India where their dreams would get transformed into realities. When we turn the pages of history we do come across n number of instances where the youth changed the course of a nation. The Play We are Free provides us an opportunity to make an introspection of ourselves. The nation being 64 years old is too young to be judged but we do have duty to conduct an analysis of ourselves as a nation, as well as dutiful citizens of this nation, whether we have performed our duties to the nation. As a nation our journey has been through trials and tribulations we faced a lot of difficulties at various phases but we also got a lot of opportunities, whether we made use of these opportunities has to be found out.

The play begins with the scene of a farmer ploughing his field, here an attempt is made to throw light on the importance of the role of agriculture in our economy. The farmers of this nation have faced many a struggle at various phases and often had to move out from the mainstream as a bit of progress in other sectors invited contempt for them, of course this attitude was nothing but the result of utter ignorance. The farmers who feed a billion three times a day occupy a pivotal position in our society.

We have been hearing a lot on corruption these days here it becomes essential for us to conduct a thorough analysis of ourselves before pointing the fingers to others. When we progressed as a nation we failed to retain some values we carried from times immemorial. The ancient scriptures taught us to pray for the goodness of all, we somewhere left those ideals and became more self centered. The dreams of our freedom fighters who sacrificed their life at the altar of nation’s cause remained as mere dreams. When we discuss of weeding out corruption from society we must adhere to some values and principles, often we find it too difficult to be part of a queue and we jump the same to get the things done. Hence we become a clown in the pack, when we enter into long discourses to mitigate corruption without trying to inculcate some of those values in our personal life. Making money through any means and using the ill gotten wealth to defend the means employed to amass the same has become the order of the day. This trend has now grown into alarming proportion endangering the existence of our nation itself, its high time to put an end to this menace. The Play highlights this issue by bringing up a discussion on commercialization of education. The mindset of the present day youth is reflected when the young man responds to his father by saying that he failed to secure him a seat in management quota. It showcases how the education has turned out to be a commodity for sale where the highest bidders are given the seats leaving a lot of genuine aspirants in the hands of fate.

We also come to know how relationships have transformed over a period of time, man woman relationship and its depth was a favourite topic for poets, writers and dramatists all along history. The Play depicts how fragile man woman relationship has turned out in the modern world, the true love which adorned the literature of various languages from time immemorial has become a thing of past. The modern world has no time to wait for any thing true as it’s a self centered world where Big Egos rule. The change of value system with the passage of time has created a lot of unreal self’s and false egos around whom the present day youth tend to revolve. The time with its magic wand of course shall reveal the real and unreal but it would be too late for them to find the lost way.

The most revolutionary Act since our independence, the RTI Act also finds mention in the Play, the Act which opened up those corridors of power, where darkness danced according to its whims and fancies, finds itself under threat with officials using those exemption clauses, which are not applicable in the context, for denying the information to the needy.

Dowry a menace that has to be wiped out from our society continues to occupy centre stage even today is a matter of shame for all of us. Women empowerment leads to the growth of the nation unless and until we have good mothers a nation won’t be blessed with good sons and daughters, thus dowry deaths and problems associated with it has to be wiped out as early as possible. The women have every right like men to live with dignity in our society nobody can take away this right. The progress we achieve in all fields is accompanied with both positive and negative aspects.

Drug abuse among the youths is a serious issue to be dealt with and the play aptly depicted the horrors of the same. The nation’s future as well as strength lies in youth if they are misguided it will result in the fall of nation. The society expects a lot from the creative energy of the youth so they are duty bound to guard against all ills that may weaken them. All revolutions around the world was lead by the youth, the guidance might have come form the experienced and old hands, but when it came to put it into effect, it was always the youth, who made it possible.

In order to make the dreams of our Nations Great leaders who made great sacrifices for us we have to travel a lot. The journey may not be a comfortable one it may not be a cakewalk as well but we do have to move on. They who sacrificed their life for us made a loud announcement that we are free from the chains of foreign rule but now it is our turn to make a loud proclamation that we are indeed free from all clutches and bondages that hampers our growth as a nation. Let our nation shine let our nation glitter let our youth say once more Yes we are Free .
